The Chelsea Foundation have announced a record-breaking £1 million donation to the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust (JESB) coinciding with his birthday, August 24.

The British icon and pioneering entrepreneur, most known for founding the media platform SBTV, was passionate about empowering young people, and providing the next generation with the life skills and opportunities to maximise their potential.

Chelsea's donation commits the club to a five-year partnership that will continue Jamal’s vision of unlocking purpose in young people through Self Belief.

Following Jamal’s sudden passing in 2022 at the age of 31, his mother Brenda and sister Tanisha launched JESB in memory of him. The entrepreneur, who was a lifelong Chelsea fan, had already worked with the club on a number of initiatives, and the trust will continue his work by: creating career opportunities for underrepresented talent; tackling the care crisis; and improving the lives of communities through creating safe spaces.

Jamal, and his platform SBTV, was responsible for documenting a time in British history that changed Black music forever, and helped launch the careers of many UK artists, including Stormzy, Dave, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J.

Salute to Jamal who made an entire generation dream that they could do it, too. In the words of this legend himself: “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will”. Jamal did that and more.

For more details on the trust and how you can get involved, head to the JESB website.
