EA Sports have released the first major gameplay patch of FIFA 19 – and it's going to change the way you play the game.

Since launch, gamers have been abusing some broken mechanics around bicycle kicks and acrobatic volleys in general – up to this point, pretty much any player has been able to pull them off and with a scarily high success rate.

Recognising the error of their ways, EA have significantly changed the way "jumping volleys" work in FIFA 19, making it more difficult for less agile players to pull off. They've also impacted the success rate of the kicks – meaning they won't go in anywhere near as often.

The below graphic shows where bicycle kicks ended up pre and post update.

As you can see, they're not hitting the target anywhere near as often.

EA have also chosen to address goalkeeper AI with this update, with the aim of not making the goalkeepers so reluctant to pick up a loose ball.

All too regularly, keepers would refuse to pick up balls that were close to their feet, resulting in goalmouth scrambles and highly avoidable goals.

The update has already gone live on PC and should follow on consoles in the coming days.
