EA SPORTS’ FIFA series is all but confirmed to be changing its name to EA Sports Football Club.

Trusted gaming journalist, Jeff Grubb, verified the news on his GrubbSnax show, saying: “EA Sports Football Club, EA Sports FC, that’s the name of the game. They are ready to move on, they have another name lined up […] We should hear about it here pretty soon."

Video Games Chronicle also backed up the news, with sources indicating that this year’s EA football title will be the last game in the franchise to have FIFA in the title before the name changes following the licence expiring after the Qatar World Cup.

In October of last year, EA said it was reviewing its “naming rights agreement with FIFA” after the release of FIFA 22. It was then reported that FIFA was seeking over double what it receives from EA for the brand, estimated to be around £133 million.

'EA Sports FC' was the exact name filed in October with the United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, with EA’s European paperwork was filed on Oct. 1 as a computer game software and online computer game entertainment.

As we reported last year, FIFA 23 will feature Men's and Women's World Cups alongside each other for the first time, with EA expanding its licensing partnerships to drive and build a single FIFA experience that brings male and female players together.

XFire reported that FIFA23 will also feature cross-play for the first time in the series’ history. FIFA players will now be able to play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms together for all of the title's game modes.
