Zinedine Zidane and EA Sports just opened a football pitch at the French legend's famous Z5 complex.
In collaboration with Zizou and UEFA, the pitch will be a catalyst to a local and global community initiative aimed at making training accessible for everyone.
Stemming from the FC Futures programme, training practices have been developed alongside Europe’s football governing body with the aim of growing the game for everyone.
The free-to-access library contains videos produced in six languages, with assistance from UEFA coaches focusing on fundamental skills within football. Sessions will also use footage from EA Sports FC in-game ‘Skill Games’ to guide coaches on how to run various training drills, and seamlessly blend both virtual and real world football.
These sessions include passing and receiving drills, dribbling, 1v1 defending and finishing. The sessions are due to be available online, meaning, anyone can have access to training from anywhere in the world.
Whilst the online sessions are targeted to a global audience, local communities will have the opportunity to utilise the new pitch at Z5, alongside having transportation costs to the site covered.
This latest development follows the birth of the ‘Rocky and Wrighty Arena’ situated in South London, which was also part of FC Futures $10M plan to invest in community level football worldwide.
Zizou who was accompanied by long time friend David Beckham said: “I grew up playing football on the plaza in my housing complex in Marseille, but to meaningfully grow the game in our communities, our young players and coaches need help. Whether it’s with online training practices or increased access to high-quality pitches, improving the next generation’s opportunities to play the game will make a huge impact. That’s why it’s such an honour to become an EA Sports FC Futures ambassador and I’m excited to be involved with their mission to bring football to all.”
The sentiment was shared by James Salmon – Senior Director, Brand at EA Sports who stated: “We want to use our platform through FC Futures and our technology and innovation to provide more opportunities for young people to play the sport. The best way is to work with the right people such as UEFA and democratise access to all of their knowledge through our coaching practices.”
Whilst the first two EA Sports FC Futures ambassadors and pitches have been Wrighty and Zidane, it’s safe to assume there will be a few more legends involved in pitch openings in the coming months and years.
