Liverpool has linked up with award-winning studio A24 to create a drama series focusing on Bill Shankly’s legendary managerial reign.
Set against the backdrop of 1960s Liverpool, the series will shy away from the rise of The Beatles and place the spotlight on another group of stars in the bustling city – Shankly’s Reds.
Shankly was one of Liverpool’s most successful managers, inheriting a side struggling in the Second Division and a deteriorating stadium. Within a matter of years, he transformed his Reds into title winners, FA Cup champions and European giants, building the foundation for the club’s future dominance at home and abroad.
Despite A24’s involvement, this series won’t just be for the Letterboxd warriors. Working closely with A24, Liverpool and Shankly’s granddaughter Karen Gill will support the studio to ensure historical accuracy in the retelling of the legend’s story.
A24 has been behind some of the biggest films and TV shows of the last decade, from Oscar-winning titles like ‘Moonlight’ to popular series’ like ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Beef.’ Entering the world of football for the first time, this series is already one to add to the watchlist.
The series is still in the early stages of production with no release date set, but keep an eye out for this one in the next year or so.
