Paris Saint-Germain have partnered with luxury publisher Assouline to produce one of the most exclusive sports photobooks ever made, taking readers on an artistic visual journey inside the club.
Created over the course of six years, photographer Julien Scussel was granted unprecedented access to the Parisian team and its players to create images that are unlike anything else produced in professional football.
From Paris and New York to Tokyo and Doha, all the figures who have contributed to the club’s story in recent years are included: Beckham, Ibrahimović, Cavani, Neymar Jr., Messi, Mbappé and more. Retailing at €1,050, the book comes with a canvas bag, protective box, and white gloves.
Speaking on the significance of the project, the book's narrator David Foenkinos said: "The project promises to be a long-term insight. Of course, players are often photographed. At this level of fame, most of their life becomes public. But here the project is unique because of its artistic purpose. Some shots offer a close-up look, just like a painting. We can see the incredible details from big pictures...In some photos, players even nod to a form of mythology."
While not many people will ever have the chance to get their (white gloved) hands on a copy, this release is yet another example of how PSG are elevating the expectations of football clubs operating within a cultural space.
'Paris Saint-Germain' is available now at Assouline.
