The UK and Republic of Ireland are now bidding unopposed for Euro 2028, after Turkey withdrew to focus on a joint bid with Italy for Euro 2032.
Turkey initially bid to host both the 2028 and 2032 iterations of the competition, but after UEFA approved their 2032 bid merger with the reigning champions, the road is clear for the UK and Ireland.
10 stadiums were selected for the joint bid in April, including Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, Hampden Park in Glasgow, and Wembley in London. Two stadiums currently under construction were also included – Belfast’s Casement Park and Everton’s new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Both bids still need approval from UEFA before anything is made official, but Euro 2028 is likely to be closer to home than ever before.
