Jude Bellingham has joined Paralympic skier Neil Simpson and diver Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix in the running for the 2020 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

After following in Jadon Sancho's footsteps to leave England for German giants Borussia Dortmund in a deal potentially worth £30 million, Bellingham's precocious performances are already illustrating exactly why he is one of the hottest names in the world game.

Bellingham has balled out on his way to becoming the club's youngest goalscorer, but also the youngest Englishman to play in the Champions League – with his form at club level in The Bundesliga caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, who recently made him the third-youngest player to win a Three Lions cap.

The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year is awarded to an outstanding young sportsperson who was aged 17 or under on 1 January 2020 – with Bellingham's 18th birthday not until June next year.

The winner will be announced on Blue Peter on Thursday 10 December (5.30pm on CBBC). They will also take part in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year live show on 20 December on BBC One.
