Mesut Özil is joining the eSports revolution.

Fresh off retiring from international football, the Arsenal midfielder is chasing another of his passions – gaming – by officially starting his own professional eSports team.

Özil is acting as an ambassador at this week's FIFA eWorld Cup Final and must have been so impressed by what he's seen that he wants a piece of the action himself.

Taking to Twitter to deliver the news, Özil announced that he'll be starting a global search for players to join #TeamOzil in the coming weeks. Those succesfull will represent the club at FIFA tournaments around the world.

To put into perspective just how lucrative the ever-emerging eSports world is, the winner of this year's FIFA eWorld Cup – currently taking place at the O2 Arena – will pocket £250,000.

Mesut's recruits will have to start swatting up the list of new features announced for FIFA 19, which went public last month.
