The PlayStation 5 will reportedly feature backwards compatibility that will work with all generations of the console, right back to the original PlayStation – meaning you can dust off all your childhood classics when the new console drops this year.

PlayStation 5 system architect Mark Cerny has previously confirmed that the next-generation console will be backward compatible with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles, but a new rumour has now emerged that alleges the new system will allow all previous generations of the console to be playable on the upcoming PS5 system.

A new report from reliable gaming source HipHopGamer has claimed that Sony is developing a “remastering engine” for the PlayStation 5 that will allow the console to run PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 games with various improvements.

This remastering will be similar to the Xbox One X’s reported backward compatibility, which will mean that older and classic games will receive upgrades such as 4K support.
