Images via Alpine Otro Capital announced a €200m investment into the Renault-owned Alpine Formula 1 team in June, and the investment group has attracted sports stars from across the globe since.Trent Alexander-Arnold and other major athletes, including Anthony Joshua and Juan Mata, have joined the investment group, using their global platforms to grow the Oxfordshire-based team’s fanbase. On becoming an Alpine investor, Alexander-Arnold said: “I’m excited to be joining Otro Capital’s group as an investor into Alpine F1 along with my brother Tyler. Having been to Formula 1 races as a fan, I love the high-pressure environment of the paddock and I’ve seen firsthand how incredibly impressive the Alpine team is.”The Liverpool and England star joins Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in the investment group, adding a new dimension to the current trend of celebrities buying into sports teams. In recent years, multiple celebrities have invested in football clubs around the world, becoming minority shareholders and even majority owners, in the case of Reynolds and McElhenney. Tom Brady recently invested in Birmingham City, and Angel City FC’s ownership group is entirely made up of Hollywood’s biggest names. Footballers haven’t joined in on the sport investment wave to the same degree as other athletes, but perhaps Alexander-Arnold and Mata’s stake in Alpine will turn the tide.
