EA SPORTS have just announced that more of the game's best-ever ballers are set to feature in FIFA 21, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Ashley Cole and Samuel Eto'o all receiving ICON cards for the first time.
Prime El Nino and back-to-back Treble winning Eto'o are set to rip up defences in the next edition of the game, while Ashley Cole will undoubtedly become one of the most in-demand LB cards on Ultimate Team ever.
Those three names will join Nemanja Vidic, Phillip Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Petr Cech and Ferenc Puskas as part of 100 ICONs in-game this year for the first time ever, in the most extensive roll-out of legendary players in a FIFA game to-date.
They join the likes of Pelé, Zidane, Ronaldo, Cruyff, and Maradona as established ICONs, with Xavi, Philip Lahm, and ‘The King’ Eric Cantona also blessed with unreal cards to be unleashed in FIFA 21. Get a look at their game faces below.
The latest patch notes also revealed some crucial information on the next iteration of FIFA 21's Ultimate Team mode. FUT will receive updated in the form Co-Op, FUT Stadium, FUT Events and FUT Live Friendlies – which you can find more info on here – but a key reconfiguration that should please FUT fans is the removal of fitness and training items in the next game.
In the latest patch notes, a statement from EA reads: "In an effort to streamline the systems in the game we’ve decided, for different reasons, to remove both Fitness and Training items in FUT 21.
Fitness items have been a light management element in Ultimate Team since the very beginning. The decay of players' fitness was put in the game originally to encourage rotation in the squad and to simulate some of the management decisions that football squads have to consider.
However, we’ve evaluated these mechanics and have decided that it wasn’t creating the desired effect in rotation and players were spending time doing a management action that was frequently required and, ultimately, not very fun. All players in FUT 21 will start every game at full Fitness."
FIFA 21 will launch on current-gen consoles on Friday, 9 October 2020. Get a look at the new ICON game faces below.
