Kylian Mbappé is set to become the new majority owner of French club Stade Malherbe de Caen.
The Real Madrid star’s imminent takeover, will reportedly make the 25-year-old the youngest active player to own a professional European football club.
Mbappe is supposedly investing roughly €15 million via his own Coalition Capital investment fund to acquire 80% of the club's capital – the remaining 20% will be held by Pierre Antoine Capton, current president of the club’s supervisory board. The Frenchman will also pay off part of the club’s debt as part of the acquisition.
The World Cup winner’s relationship with the Ligue 2 club goes way back. When he was 13-years-old, Mbappé almost signed for the club before putting pen to paper with Monaco.
Caen were relegated from the topflight of French football back in 2019, and although it is not yet clear what Mbappé’s ambitions are for the second division club, you can guarantee he’ll be looking to get the side playing Lique 1 football in the very near future. Allez!
