Barcelona are going where most clubs don't dare to go.

The re-branding of a club crest can be a bit of sticky one, but Barcelona are hoping a subtle change to refresh their branding will win fans over – and if they're not happy, they won't go through with it.

According to the Barcelona website the new crest: "New design emphasises [the] club's roots and historical elements, 'blaugrana' colours are more prominent, and the ball, icon of the Barça style of play, is moved to a more central position."

The crest hasn't been update since 2002 and in that time a lot has changed. Club badges have become brighter, less cluttered and just simpler, perhaps better representing what most football clubs are nowadays, multi-million pounds businesses looking to stamp out an identity amongst a lot of competition, both on and off the field.

If Barça fans are happy with the refresh, you can expect to see players donning the new badge as early as the 2019/20 season. A mock-up of what the badge might look like can be seen below.
