Hansi Flick’s new reign at Barcelona has seen the club go through quite a few changes, from big transfers and 7-0 wins, to a slightly less obvious switch up: the end of Barça tunnel fits.

The Catalan club was one of the first and best to implement the NBA-esque tradition, with players like Jules Koundé and Héctor Bellerín getting the opportunity to flex their fashion muscles ahead of matches. After a video of the team’s arrival went viral, with players dressed in a generic Barça tee and shorts combo, it seems that the Flick administration has done away with the pre-match catwalk altogether.

The new arrival uniform is the polar opposite of the stylish looks we’ve gotten used to over the years, with Koundé emerging as one of the game’s most fashionable ballers because of those now iconic tunnel fits.

What is typically viewed as an opportunity for players to show off their personal style and an evergreen marketing tool for sports teams in the States hasn’t particularly landed well overseas, and Barcelona suddenly dropping the pre-match looks comes as no surprise when so many people still view fashion as a distraction rather than a harmless addition to the game.

With the fashion club era coming to an abrupt end for the men’s team, only time will tell if Barça Femení will suffer the same fate, or if Alexia Putellas and Salma Paralleulo’s fits will still grace the timeline for another season.
