Micheal Ward and Bill Nighy star in the ‘The Beautiful Game,’ a new drama inspired by the Homeless World Cup coming to Netflix later this month.

The film follows Nighy’s character Mal, manager of the England’s homeless football team, as he hopes to lead his side to victory at the Homeless World Cup in Rome. Micheal Ward plays star striker Vinny, brought into the fold at the last minute to help solidify the team’s chance at claiming the crown.

‘The Beautiful Game’ is a heartwarming story, based on the real tournament that has changed the lives of many players around the world. The first Homeless World Cup kicked off in 2003 in Austria and has taken place every year since, aiming to challenge homelessness and housing insecurity through football.

Homeless World Cup Founder and President, Mel Young, said: “The name of this film sums up what we strive for at the Homeless World Cup: the power football has to change lives and perceptions, to inspire hope into people who have experienced so much suffering in their lives, I don't think there’s anything more beautiful.

“The Homeless World Cup is our contribution to tackling the homeless problem across the globe but there is so much more to do. We have proved just how powerful football can be when it is applied to a social problem, and we will keep striving to do more.”

The film will hit cinemas on March 22, and Netflix on March 29.
