Barcelona has renewed its longstanding kit partnership deal with Nike, rumoured to be the most expensive in history.

The Catalan club has been sponsored by Nike since 1998, its previous kit deal with the American sportswear brand was estimated to be worth £105 million per year and was due to expire in June 2028.

It’s been reported that Barcelona was actively seeking kit supplier deals elsewhere – with the likes of rival brands such as PUMA and New Balance in the mix – and at one point the clubs was even considering producing their own kits.

The length and value of the new Barcelona and Nike contract has yet to be disclosed but according to Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, a 14-year deal worth £127 million per year – £1.7 billion in total – has been agreed between the two powerhouses.

The new agreement would make it the most expensive kit deal in football history. In comparison, Real Madrid and Manchester United earn $120 million and $105 million respectively annually from their adidas partnerships.

The incredibly lucrative deal will also see Nike play a “key strategic role” in Barcelona’s retail operations and collaborate with the club’s Barça Licensing & Merchandising arm on product creation, the supply chain and global distribution.

Having produced some of the most iconic kits the game’s ever seen, here’s to plenty more cult-classic drops on the horizon.
