hummel released a new official kit for the Greenland national team, celebrating the country’s unique football culture through kit design.
The kit is rooted in Greenlandic culture and history, telling the story of the nation through patterns and prints. Arriving in red and white with jacquard details, the shirt is adorned with tupilak and tuukkaq symbols from mythology. The tupilak represents strength and spiritual guidance, while the tuukkaq symbolizes courage and masculinity.
Other design elements draw inspiration from Greenlandic crafts, including avittat patterns, commonly found on kamiks and national costumes.
Greenland has one of the lowest population densities in the world, with most of the island covered in ice caps. Despite this, football has always been able to unite the nation and its people, creating a unique community and connection through sport.
To highlight this special football culture, hummel and the Greenland Football Federation presented the kit with a campaign titled ‘The Remote Football Community’ – a testament to how the beautiful game bridges gaps over ice caps and between remote villages to unify the island.
Greenland’s new jersey is available to purchase now via hummel’s online store and select retailers.
