Ajax have announced that starting from the 2025/2026 season, kits will feature their classic crest in celebration of the club’s 125th anniversary.

The news marks 34 years since the crest was last seen on an Ajax strip, with it first being introduced in 1928.

The Ajax crest represents the club's values of strength, unity, and determination, embodied by the Greek hero Ajax the Great. In 1990, the club changed the design for a more abstract version, still sporting the now iconic portrait of Ajax but drawn using just 11 lines to symbolise the number of players in a football team.

Although the club won’t don the "new" crest until their 125th anniversary in March next year, Ajax kicked off the news with a special celebration match at the Johan Cruyff Arena at the weekend between Ajax and Real Madrid legends – including Edwin van der Sar, Frank and Ronald de Boer and Jari Litmanen.

The classic crest will officially be visible starting in the 2025-26 season and will gradually be implemented across the club’s public face.
