Barnsley FC and PUMA have collaborated with American fashion label KidSuper for their 23/24 kits.

Drawing inspiration from the rich history of Barnsley FC, the design process began with an in-depth exploration of the club’s badge, previous shirts, and overall heritage.

The newly unveiled kits proudly showcase the club’s traditional colours of red, white, and black, complemented by accents of gold to symbolise the stars of Barnsley.

The home shirt is directly inspired by the popular 1989/90 ‘Shaw Carpets’ kit, remembered fondly by Barnsley fans both for its sponsor and distinctive six-pointed star design.

In the spirit of honouring the past while forging a new path for the future, special attention was given to ‘Toby Tyke’, the club’s beloved mascot. As part of the collaboration, a new badge and colour scheme were introduced for the third kit, which also features Toby’s face subtly integrated into the side panel.

KidSuper founder, Colm Dillane, described the opportunity to design this year’s strips as “a dream come true” and explained that the creative process began with an in-depth look at the club’s archive, an opportunity that provided the NYC native with a chance to explore the “risks and freedom of old jerseys”.

The Barnsley collection is the latest iteration of an ongoing collab between KidSuper and PUMA, a relationship that’s given football fans reworked PUMA Kings – first donned by everyone’s favourite fashion baller Héctor Bellerín – and a lifestyle capsule fronted by Brazilian giants Palmeiras.

In that time, KidSuper’s also collaborated with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Ugg and toy manufacturer Superplastic. Impressive company, indeed, for the Colliers from South Yorkshire.
