FC Union Berlin and adidas have collaborated with Berlin-based streetwear brand Iriedaily to produce a limited-edition fourth kit and streetwear collection in support of sports and youth culture in the German capital.
In addition to the new jersey, Iriedaily designed a training jacket, hoodie, and T-shirt for the collaboration all of which incorporate the streetwear brand's geometric, mixed-pattern, ‘Crazy Fresh’ design. Whilst the words, ‘Daily Eisern Irie Union', subtly run across the range in a repeated pattern to create an almost striped effect - a style reflective of the club's current home kit.
In place of the club’s shirt sponsor, ‘Mellowpark’ sits in the middle of the jersey in bold, red lettering and acts as a reference to the collection's wider purpose: to raise funds for the construction of a new skatepark in Mellowpark itself, an outdoor sports park in the Köpenick district of Berlin.
Christian Arbeit, managing director of communications at FC Union Berlin, spoke about the connection between the club and the skate plaza: “Many Unioners not only grew up on the terraces at the Alte Försterei, but also next door at Mellowpark, so this very natural connection is experiencing a new milestone with this project.”
The ‘Irie Union’ jersey will debut this weekend in the club’s home match against Bayer Leverkusen, and again on 1 May for Annual Women’s Football Day. Proceeds from the collection's sales will go towards creating a safe space for young people to access skating in the city's cultural hub of Mellowpark.
The collection is available to purchase now via Union Berlin’s online store.
