Nike's latest drop is inspired by the best of Brazil.

Neymar's latest signature Mercurial pays homage to another Seleção legend – Ronaldo – and the boots he made legendary in 1998.

Nike’s new Mercurial Puro Fenomeno boots are influenced by R9's Mercurial from '98, with the lateral side of the Puro Fenomeno featuring the iconic chrome and blue colour scheme of the ’98 Mercurial.

The speed ribs of the current Mercurial are altered to mimic the original’s wavy lines. The black tips of the cleat studs are also a nod to the ’98 version.

Speaking on the release and why Neymar is the right choice to carry Mercurial forward, Ronaldo said:

"The partnership between Neymar and Mercurial is perfect. He has this characteristic in his game, he’s very fast, can abruptly change direction...I feel a connection with Neymar. He’s a sensational young man, very balanced, focused, already following a great path."

The new Nike Mercurial Puro Fenomeno will be available December 21 on nike.com.
