Manchester United and Disney+ are reported to be closing in on a multi-million dollar deal that will see the streaming platform release a documentary on Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at the club.
The deal includes exclusive time with Ferguson, as well as interviews with some of the club’s biggest names and former players. United will allow access to unseen archive footage providing insight into the secrets to Fergie’s long-term success with the Red Devils.
The idea for the documentary is still being conceptualised, and deal is yet to be finalised. However, with Disney+ already hosting a growing selection of football documentaries and series, such as ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, this is right up their alley.
Documentaries offering behind-the-scenes access to football clubs, complete with archive footage and one-on-one interviews with current and former players, is the game's newest obsession.
A documentary on Manchester United’s treble-winning season is hitting Amazon Prime next month, and with the popularity of series like Netflix’s ‘Beckham’ and Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing’, Disney+ has a whole host of content to compete with. There’s a football-shaped void on the streaming platform, and the Red Devils are just the club to fill it.
