Manchester United and adidas have linked up with legendary designer and art director Peter Saville for the “Pulsebeat” collection – a new capsule collection that connects the worlds of football, music and design together.
The collection reworks one of Saville’s most iconic works – the album cover he created for Joy Division’s album Unknown Pleasures – and weaving it into clean, monochrome pieces in the new collection.
The cover’s pulse is switched up using heart-rate data taken from Manchester United’s men’s and women’s teams during competitive matches, with a pulse graphic running along the other sides of tops and bottoms, with adi’s Three Stripes sitting on the other side.
The “Pulsebeat” collection includes a two-piece tracksuit long-sleeve jersey, short sleeve T-shirt, shorts and a scarf, as well as a special-edition adidas Spezial sneaker.
Launching the collection, Saville said, “A Manchester heart beats differently. It’s a place where people do things with an energy that permeates. Within this special collection, football and music become united.”
The collection will be available to cop on April 18 via the adidas web store, with the collection also due to launch via the Manchester united club and online stores.
