Umbro x Slam Jam Join Forces for Terrace Culture Inspired Capsule

Umbro links up with Milan-based streetwear connoisseurs Slam Jam for a collection that takes terrace culture to new levels.

As a brand that helped to define the style of terrace football culture in England in the '80s and '90s, Umbro’s shirts and lifestyle apparel hold a special place in the heart of not only football fans, but streetwear lovers too. Which is why their latest collaboration with Luca Banini’s, Slam Jam, is the perfect fit.

Founded in Ferrara, Italy back in 1989, Benini’s business started as a distributor and importer, bringing the likes of Stüssy to Europe and introducing a generation of Italian kids to skate culture. Since then, Slam Jam has become a hub of creativity and a cultural connector for some of fashion’s biggest streetwear advocates. Over the year's, Virgil Abloh, Jun Takahashi and Martine Rose have passed through the Italian store, an indication of how revered an institution Slam Jam is.

Exclusively dropping in the Italian market, Umbro x Slam Jam’s collection is a nod to the themes of terrace culture prevalent in both countries’ football communities. The collaboration chooses to focus on ‘Penalty Culture’, acknowledging professional sportsmanship and that not every game can be whole-heartedly good.

The capsule’s football shirt is inspired by England’s national team kits during Umbro’s sponsorship period, arriving in red, cream and black whilst featuring the words ‘Penalty Culture’ on the front along with a bespoke P.C crest.

The capsule's bomber jacket features an all over black a white photo-print of young fans huddled together talking tactics, whilst the inclusion of denim jeans adorned with diagonal Umbro logos and a fresh take on terrace inspired dresses, skirts and a trench coat adds further sartorial touches to the collection.

Rounded off by football scarves with intarsia patterns in green and white championing the ‘Penalty Culture’ motif, and jester caps and hoods paying homage to a time when football culture wasn’t so welcoming in the '80s and '90s. This Umbro x Slam Jam range is like no other.
