Demna Gvasalia has hopped on the football-shirt-as-high-fashion-item wave by dropping off a host of head-to-toe football attire for his debut Balenciaga showcase for AW20.
Balenciaga returned to the haute couture schedule after 52 years with Vetements founder Gvasalia now at the helm, and the brand decided to follow up on the release of their viral, £425 Lonsdale-like sneakers by dropping off a host of new football-themed fits for the showcase.
Speaking about his decision to create the new Balenciaga FC range, Gvasalia told British Vogue: “Footballers and priests were what I grew up with in Georgia. Sport, religion, obsession, and seduction are stripped of their functions, leaving only the sensation of a fashion object.”
The collection features four full kits, including socks and boots, in red, navy, black and fluorescent yellow. Each shirt comes complete with an OG PlayStation-themed Balenciaga logo for the fictional Balenciaga Football Club – which "places the obsessive quality of team sports in another fanatical context." Check out each look below.
