Football Beyond Borders, Nike and JD Sports have given a gift to Moss Side’s next generation, creating a new all-weather pitch to provide more young ballers with an opportunity to play the game.

The new pitch has been opened at the Millennium Powerhouse in Moss Side and is called ‘Move to Zero Manchester’, which derives from Nike’s journey to zero carbon and zero waste. The all-weather surface is made with Nike Grind, a process that transforms manufacturing scrap and end-of-life shoes into recycled materials.

Moss Side has historically been one of Manchester’s most disadvantaged areas, but has always found a way to punch above its weight in sport and culture as a breeding ground for some of the city’s greatest success stories. This new facility is intended to be a springboard for Moss Side’s young people to be the best they can be.

Phil Foden and Ella Toone – two of Manchester’s latest and greatest exports – came down to Millennium Powerhouse to open the new pitch on a day of festivities organised by Youth Beyond Borders (FBB’s new creative collective) that included workshops, food stalls and football.
