British label YMC has kicked off its 25th anniversary celebrations by linking up with football shirt manufacturer Meyba for a new football jersey collaboration.
Since its inception in the 1940s, Meyba has gone on to supply many of Spain’s top-flight clubs including FC Barcelona, with the brand sponsoring the side during the Maradona era, Johann Cruyff’s return as the club’s manager and most famously in the ‘Dream Team’ period where legendssuch as Ronald Koeman, Michael Laudrup and a young Pep Guardiola all donned Meyba strips.
Working closely with sportswear aficionado and Meyba’s creative director, Neal Heard, YMC designed two special-edition shirts that celebrate the "camaraderie, style and passion" of football.
The Barca-style cotton shirt honours Johann Cruyff, in the Blaugrana’s classic blue and garnet colourway, with Cruyff’s iconic number ‘9’ on the back and complete with ‘70s styling. The pink, tie-dye version acknowledges modern-day performance fabrics with a YMC sponsor logo emblazoned across the chest alongside a YMC club crest, with a 96’ emblazoned to celebrate the year of YMC’s launch.
Speaking about the collection, Fraser Moss, YMC Creative Director said: “How could I turn down the opportunity to collaborate with Neal Heard and the legendary Meyba? Not only a close friend, Neal also shares my love Newport County football club. Hardly Barcelona, I know, but the club is in my blood. My great grandfather, Bert Moss, founded the Welsh side back in 1912, for which I will forever feel proud and grateful.”
Creative Director Neal Heard added: “Meyba is back in football. And with a dedicated fashion range, too. So, to celebrate, we chose to work with some of our close pals, and brands that we admire. Top of that list lies You Must Create. Not only a brand we watch with envy, but one run by close pals. YMC’s creative director, Fraser Moss, is not only a lifelong friend but also someone who has as much love for football as we do. So working together provided the perfect opportunity to unite his passion for football and clothes.”
