Women’s Super League matches are set to be broadcast live regularly on BBC One and BBC Two from the 2021/22 campaign, with The FA set to agree a shared TV rights deal with the BBC and Sky Sports.

As reported by The Telegraph, move would see the WSL reach its largest-ever television audience from next season which would see top-flight football broadcast on BBC channels for the first time since 1988.

The deal, which is expected to be finalised next month, will see The BBC take games from off the Red Button and on to mainstream programming in a dual-agreement with the BBC and Sky.

The deal will help transform the women’s game in England by ensuring the biggest exposure to the league yet on free-to-air television, with significant financial income from broadcasters arriving for the first time.

Last year, the FA said that the BBC Red Button’s peak WSL viewing figures were averaging 285,000 per game, while BT Sport’s WSL matches had seen a peak of 85,000 viewers. These figures are now set to get even bigger from next season onwards, and the biggest audience the women's game has ever seen.
